Rosa Hilda Cantu Rosa Hilda Cantu, 72, passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2013, surrounded by her family and close friends. Her unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of family and friends ascended her into the gates of Heaven where she will peacefully reside with her dearly departed family and friends. Rosie or Rosita, as she was regarded by her loved ones, was born on June 17, 1941 in Laredo, Texas to Rosa and Rosendo Cantu. Throughout her lifetime, she shared many great memories with her only sister, San Juanita Ramirez and her brother-in-law Pedro Ramirez. The “apple of her eye” was her only daughter Sylvia Juanita Cantu. Known for her ease in frequent conversations with even total strangers, Rosie made numerous friends and throughout her lifetime with a contagious smile and an entertaining sense of humor. Throughout her life she maintained a sweet and simple demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many, as being witness of her constant nurturing love and faith. Her signature gift of joy, shown through her constant smiling, laughter, and joking around, will never be forgotten. Possessing a true servant’s heart, Rosie faithfully cared for her mother. With a real zest for life, Rosie loved to dance, listen to Tejano music and chat with friends and family. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends and loved ones, especially by her friend Joseph Rene Rodriguez who faithfully kept his promise of “taking care of Rosie”. Mrs. Cantu is survived by her daughter, Sylvia J. Cantu; mother, Rosa S. Cantu and sister, San Juanita (Pedro) Ramirez A rosary will be recited on Sunday, September 8, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. in the Hillside Funeral Home Chapel. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 9, 2013 at 8:20 a.m. from Hillside Funeral Home to San Agustin Cathedral. A mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the family plot of the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
