Maria Hilda Benavides Mrs. Maria H. Benavides, 83, passed away on January 20, 2015. Maria Hilda was a loving wife to Rodolfo for 58 years. A loving and caring mother, grandmother, and friend to many throughout her life. She worked at Katherine Tarver Elementary for 41 years where she touched many children’s lives. She was a devoted Den Mother for seven years and her hobbies were baking, cooking, sewing, and knitting. Her favorite functions were attending her children’s and grandchildren’s football, baseball, soccer, basketball, track, and dance performances. Her proudest moment was attending her children’s and grandchildren’s college graduations. Mrs. Benavides is preceded in death by her loving husband, Rodolfo Benavides; parents, Blas and Donicia Garza; brothers, Raul, Gilberto, Ricardo and Blas Garza Jr; and grandson, Manuel Grajeda. She is survived by her children, Rodolfo “Rudy” (Mary) Benavides, Estela (Ignacio) Salazar, Hilda (Eduardo) Coronado and Ruben Benavides; grandchildren, Rudy Benavides, Bobby Benavides, Ignacio R. Salazar, Max Salazar, Ave Marie Rubio, Eddie Coronado, Teresa Foreman, Ricardo Coronado, Ruben Benavides, Robert Perez and 19 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Herminia Juarez, Gloria Perez, Ramiro Garza and Graciela Ramirez. A rosary will be recited on Sunday, January 25, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. in the Hillside Funeral Home Chapel. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Monday, January, 26, 2015 at 8:00 a.m. from Hillside Funeral Home to San Luis Rey Catholic Church. A mass will be celebrated at 8:30 a.m. Interment will follow to the City of Laredo Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Rudy Benavides Jr., Bobby Benavides, Ignacio R. Salazar II, Nathan Rubio, Eddie Coronado and Ruben Benavides. Honorary pallbearers will be Rudy Benavides Sr, Ruben Benavides Sr. and Alberto Perez. A special thanks to Doctor Claudia Mercado and her staff, Laredo Home Health Hospice Staff, South Texas Primary Care, Medical Equip Medical Rental, and a very special recognition to the person who cared for her throughout her 15 years of illness, Lupita Luna.
