Ruben Peña Mr. Ruben Peña passed away on Wednesday, February 18, 2015, in Laredo, Texas, at the age of 79. Ruben was born on July 11, 1935, and had been a resident of Laredo, Texas all his life. Mr. Peña is preceded in death by his loving parents, Filemon and Rosaura Peña; and his brother, Leonel Peña. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Luisa Peña of 59 years of marriage; and by his five children, Ricardo Ruben (Linda) Peña, Lyssa (Ray) Gonzales, Chrissy Peña Leyendecker, Robert (Delia) F. Peña and Monica L. (Joe) Flores; nine grandchildren, Michelle Gonzales, Melanie Gonzales, Andres Ruben Peña, Alejandro Javier Peña, Kassandra Nicole Peña, Andrea Carolina Peña, Isabella Katerina Peña, Albert J. Flores and Catherine Nadine Flores; one great-grandchild, Armando Javier Benavides III; his brother, Gilbert Peña; and his sisters, Sylvia Motz and Araceli (Mario) P. Tijerina. Ruben was a veteran of the Texas Alcoholic Beverages Commission and retired as Director of Ports of Entry. He was a Korean War Veteran. He was an usher at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, celebrating his birthdays at the beach, playing poker and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed picking up his grandchildren everyday afterschool from St. Augustine School. Ruben was a family man and known for his generosity and helpfulness toward everyone. His grandchildren knew him as “Papa”, and they loved him very much. He will be greatly missed by all. A visitation will be held on Friday, February 20, 2015 in the Hillside Funeral Home Chapel from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. from Hillside Funeral Home to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. A mass will be celebrated at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow to the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
