Josephine Virginia “Mammy” Flores Josephine Virginia “Mammy” Flores, age 80, passed away on Monday, October 19, 2015 in Lakewood surrounded by the love of her family and friends. She was born October 24, 1934 in Brighton, Colorado to Jose and Maria Rebecca Duran. She was the youngest of eleven brothers and sisters. Throughout her career she impacted the lives of many. After high school she began to work for the Air Force as a supervisor and then moved to Veterans Administration working for the Department of Energy until her retirement in 1991. She was a classification and recruiting officer for 5 different states. During her career she developed what is known as the Join-A-School educational program to help tutor and mentor students who were failing or close to dropping out of middle school. With this achievement she received the second highest award from the Dept. of Energy, Meritorious Service award in Washington D.C. She is preceded in death by her parents-in-law, Francisco J. Flores, Sr. and Ernestina Saldaña Flores of Laredo, Texas. She is survived by her husband Francisco J. Flores, Jr. and four children, Mary Ellen McFarlane, Rosanne Harris, Mark Marrufo and Michelle Tiscareno. Together her children gave her twelve grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Josephine is also survived by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Maria Teresa (Jesus G.) Cavazos of Monterrey, MX, Joe F. (Elsa) Flores of Laredo, TX, Miguel (Barbara) Flores of Lakewood, CO, Tina Jackson of Laredo, TX, Mary Esther (Dr. Homero R.) Sanchez of Laredo, TX, Maria Angela Beck of La Grange, TX, Adela Flores of San Antonio, TX, Lulu Flores (Scott Hendler) of Austin, TX and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Josephine loved to spend time with her family. Every moment was to be cherished when being around such a beautiful woman. She will be loved and missed dearly. May she rest in peace alongside the Lord. In lieu flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Bear Valley Church- Food Bank, 10001 West Jewell Ave., Lakewood, CO, 80232.
