Lucia E. Ramirez

Lucia E. Ramirez, 78, entered into paradise on Sunday, December 25, 2016 in Laredo, Texas. She was born December 13, 1938 on the feast day of Saint Lucia and was given her name in her honor. She was a graduate of San Augustine High School and received her bachelor's degree at Texas Woman's University and dedicated her career to teaching first grade for over thirty five years. When she had students whose parents were taught by her, the parents would insist on having their children in her class. She also taught First Holy Communion for over thirty years at San Martin de Porres Catholic Church and served as a Eucharistic Minister. She is preceded in death by her husband, Porfirio Ramirez, Jr.; son, Jose Pedro Ramirez; parents, Simon and Estela D. Luna; siblings, Guadalupe Ramirez, Rosario Salinas, Dolores Sandoval, Felipe Luna, Simon Luna, Jr. and Pedro Luna. Mrs. Ramirez is survived by her sons, Porfirio (Melissa) Ramirez III, Rodolfo (Veronica) Ramirez, Carlos Ramirez, Eduardo Ramirez; 11 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; brother, Agustine (Lourdes) Luna; sister, Maria Cooper; beloved niece, Carmen Luna Martinez and numerous nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. Her greatest treasures were her family and her Catholic faith. She was The Rock for her extended earthly family and friends providing the guidance and love to lead all to our spiritual, eternal family in union with Our Lord. A rosary will be recited on Sunday, January 1, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. by the Catholic Daughters and a second rosary at 7:00 p.m. in the Hillside Funeral Home Chapel. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 2, 2017 at 8:00 a.m. from Hillside Funeral Home to San Luis Rey Catholic Church. A mass will be celebrated at 8:30 a.m. Interment will follow at the family plot of the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
