Margarita V. Briseño

February 21, 1938 — April 7, 2017

Margarita V. Briseño, 79, passed away peacefully Friday, April 7, 2017, surrounded by her beloved children. Our Heavenly Father called Margarita home after battling a long-term illness. Mague, as she was affectionally called by family and friends, was born on February 21, 1938 in Laredo, Texas. Mague attended C. M. Macdonell Elementary School, Christen Middle School, and Martin High School. She worked as a substitute teacher at Alma Pierce Elementary School and as a sales associate at Sears. Mague was a devoted wife and mother whose tireless energy always revolved around her family. Mague treasured her children above all things. She was supportive of her children's endeavors and provided encouragement during difficult times. She taught her children the values of showing gratitude, sharing with others, and being respectful. Memories recalled by her children include reading storytime books and having home-baked goods after school. The most beautiful gift Mague gave her children was unconditional love by accepting and respecting their differences. Her children will deeply miss her but will continue to cherish her memory forever. Gregarious and sociable, she easily formed friendships where ever she went. Mague was straight-forward and candid but always sincere. Mague was married to Jose Angel Briseño for forty-five years before her husband's death in 2010. She was also preceded in death by her son Ricardo Briseño, parents: Anastacio Valenzuela and Cruz S. Valenzuela; and brother Antonio Valenzuela. She is survived by her son Jose Angel (Randy Gesn) Briseño Jr.; daughters Araceli Briseño and Patricia Briseño; sister Estela (Arturo) Flores; and other nephews, nieces, and other relatives and friends. A rosary will be recited on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. in the Hillside Funeral Home Chapel. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 8:30 a.m. from Hillside Funeral Home to San Martin de Porres Catholic Church. A mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the family plot of the Calvary Catholic Cemetery. A special thanks to Dr. Oscar Gutierrez, LMC nursing staff, Brush Country Home Health, and Champion Care.
