Simon Lidsky, 93, known to the family as Pip, Pa, or Papo was born to Russian parents Isaac and Luba in Istanbul, Turkey on May 31, 1924. He was raised in La Habana Cuba and it was there that he first found success in business. In 1960 looking for a better opportunity for his family, he left Cuba. After a brief stay in Miami he and the family moved to Puerto Rico where he started several new successful business ventures. In 1966, wanting to return to the United States he left Puerto Rico and launched in McAllen, Texas a successful retail business chain of stores which remained in operation until 2010. Laredo, Texas was home to Simon and New York City was a city he visited frequently. He was an active member of both communities.
