Laredo

Mr. Abraham Heriberto Diaz Sr., 86, entered into the loving arms of our Heavenly Father on April 29, 2023, in Laredo, Texas. He passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Laredo in 1937 and lived here all his life. Abraham attended Martin High School where he graduated in 1954. Abraham served his country proudly in the U.S. Army, Engineers Corps 5th Army, having served during the Berlin Crisis.

After his tour of service, he started working at his father-in-law’s grocery store, O. Tamez Grocery where he managed the store for over 25 years. His work history would also include S.N. Mr. “Bob Days” as he was affectionately known to his friends and family, (for being an avid New York Yankees aficionado) loved playing every sport there was, with a special love for golf.

Being a proud member of both Knights of Columbus Council 2304 (elected Grand Knight circa 1982) and American Legion Post 59 (elected Vice-Commander) and staying true to their beliefs and traditions, Beto voluntarily participated in numerous capacities at St. Peter’s Memorial School, St. Peter’s Church, and Holy Redeemer Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Guadalupe and Francisca Diaz; brothers: Jesus Diaz, and Gonzalo Diaz; sister: Maria Elena Toomey, daughter Laura Lydia Diaz Montemayor, grandchildren David Montemayor and Lilivette Diaz.

Diaz; children: Abraham Heriberto (Irene) Diaz Jr., Daniel Diaz; grandchildren: Lilia Diaz, Liliana Diaz, Abraham H. (Stephanie) Diaz III, Marcial Ramirez; great-grandchildren: Briana Lozano, Brandon Lozano, Abraham H. The family would also like to express their most heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Diaz’s neighbors Salvador “Chava” Gonzalez, Juan Rivera, Tico Perez, and especially to Alfredo “Freddy” Perez, and Mario Renteria who were always just a phone call away and provided assistance to the very end.
