Listen to Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of a beautiful soul, our beloved mother, Alicia Concepcion “Connie” Liendo. Mama Connie passed away peacefully at the age of 89, surrounded by her loving family. Mama Connie was born in Dolores, Texas to Alfonso D. Liendo and Andrea Guzman Liendo. She was the second of 14 children.

Mama Connie was a member of the Martin High School Class of 55, although she did not complete her education until obtaining a GED later in life. Mama Connie was married in 1955 and had seven children. After divorcing and wanting a better life for her children, Mama Connie began a career in fashion, working at Parisian, Hachar Department Store and ultimately dedicating 40 years of service at Polly Adams, where she was recognized as a talented, hardworking fashionista. She was deeply devoted to her family, sometimes working two or three jobs to make sure that her family had what we needed. She still found time to teach catechism and help at the church. She was a compassionate soul, a giver of love, advice and guidance. Mama Connie passed down her family history, her great-grandfather’s medicinal recipes, and stories of her childhood. She was an avid reader, enjoyed outings to bingo with her daughters and her Sunday lunches after church with her “Lunch Bunch” friends from San Martin De Porres Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents Alfonso D. and Andrea Liendo, the father of her children, Raymundo Guevara, Sr., her brothers Oscar Alejandro, Eloisa Estela, Alfredo and Carlos Liendo, her sister Maria Isabel Liendo Ramos, her beloved son Victor Manuel Guevara and several nieces and nephews. Mama Connie is survived by her loving children, Araceli (Arnulfo+) Guevara Garcia, Andrea Luisa (Jose Leonardo) Arrellano, Raymundo (Elsa Florinda) Guevara, Jr., Elvira Alicia Guevara Juarez, Jose Maria “Chema” (Gloria) Guevara and Alfonso L. (Marissa) Guevara.
