Amparo P. Cantu

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Amparo Cantu on the glorious and wonderful day of Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024. Amparo's life was a testament to unwavering love, formidable strength, and remarkable resilience, virtues that will be permanently remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Preceding her in death are her husband, Ruben Cantu, her parents, Carlos and Luciana Puente, and siblings Carlos Puente, Juan A. Puente, and Elia P. Garza. 

Amparo's legacy continues through her family. She is survived and will be lovingly remembered by her children, Melissa Cantu (Santiago Vela), Ruben Cantu Jr. (Lyli Aranda), and Christian Cantu; her grandchildren, James Vela, Janelle Vela-Pineda (Ivan Pineda), Julianne Vela, Jasmin Cantu, Andrew Vela; step grandchild, Luis Castillo III; her great-grandchild, James Ivan Pineda; her siblings, Yolanda P. Lopez and Oscar Puente; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Amparo's life was characterized by her quiet strength, deep faith, and the joy she found in simple pleasures such as reading, solving crossword puzzles, and traveling.

As the family matriarch, she instilled values of resilience and compassion that will endure through generations.

We also extend our heartfelt thanks to Laredo Gentle Hands Hospice, particularly Jessica Moreno, Esmeralda Licea, and Raquel Estrada, for their unwavering support during Amparo's time. We invite you to join us in reflecting on Amparo's profound impact and keeping her memory alive in our hearts.  Your thoughts and prayers for her family during this time are greatly appreciated.

The family will receive condolences on Thursday, April 4, 2024, from 8 am to 11 am at Hillside Funerals & Cremations. A Liturgy of the Word will be held at 11 am.

The funeral procession will depart at 12 noon to the Calvary Catholic Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband, Ruben.
