It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Anita Chapa, who entered eternal rest on Monday, January 26, 2026 in Laredo, Texas.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend whose love and strength shaped generations. Her kindness, faith, and unwavering dedication to her family were the foundation of her life, and her presence brought comfort, laughter, and guidance to all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Zenon Chapa; her daughter, Nellie Borjas; her parents, Genaro Guerrero and Pompea Guerrero; her grandsons, Roberto Angel Chapa and Jonathan Saul Martinez; and her siblings, Tomasa Rodriguez (Homero), Hilaria Garcia (†Joel), and Cecilio Guerrero.
She is survived by her loving children: Anita Berlanga (Mauro), Roberto Zenon Chapa (Yolanda), Noemi “Mimi” Berlanga (Ricardo Leyva), Graciela Berlanga (Francisco J. Berlanga), Sandra Chapa Martinez (Felix Saul), and Enrique Amadeo Chapa.
She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Julissa A. Valdez, Joshua M. Berlanga, Roberto A. Chapa, Arlene Zertuche, Marlene Vasquez, Jennifer Amadeo, Jessenia Tapia, Janessa, Jelina, Janellie, Zennia D. Galvan, Holly Z. Lopez, and Eryana Ramos; along with 21 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense joy and pride.
She is further survived by her siblings: Juan Federico Guerrero (†Esther), Consuelo Martinez (†Benito), David Guerrero, and Genaro Guerrero (Elizabeth), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Her legacy lives on in the love she gave so freely, the values she instilled, and the countless memories that will forever remain in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.
The family will be receiving condolences on Thursday, January 29, 2026 at Hillside Funerals and Cremations from 5PM to 9PM. A prayer service will be held at 7PM. A funeral service will continue on Friday, January 30, 2026 beginning at 7AM with a chapel service at 10AM culminating with a graveside service at the City of Laredo Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Gabriel Valdez, Robert Chapa, Joshua Berlanga, Jesse Tapia, Diego Galvan and Tony Lopez.
