Basilio Light, 86, loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, in Laredo, Texas, surrounded by his devoted family.
Born in Encinal, Texas, Basilio lived a life defined by faith, service, and unwavering love for his family. At a young age, he answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Air Force, dedicating 21 proud years to military service. His commitment to duty, discipline, and honor left a lasting impression on all who knew him. Following his retirement from the Air Force, Basilio continued his life of service by shaping young minds as a teacher with LISD for 20 years. He believed deeply in the power of education and took great pride in guiding and mentoring his students, many of whom carried his lessons far beyond the classroom.
Basilio’s greatest joy, however, was his family. He was a steadfast and loving husband to his beloved wife, Angela Rojas Light, with whom he shared a lifetime of cherished memories. As a father, he led with strength, wisdom, and quiet compassion. As a grandfather and great-grandfather, he was a source of warmth, storytelling, gentle humor, and unconditional love. His presence brought comfort and unity, and his legacy lives on in the strong family values he instilled in each generation.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Zach and Tomasa Light; his beloved children, Charles Light and Mary Yvette Light; his siblings, F. A. “Polo” Martinez, Carlos (Ines) Martinez, Isabel “Chavela” Maddox, Paulita (Enemencio) Morales, Belia Jalomo, and Virginia (Margarito) Nieto; his sister-in-law, Maria (Joe) Juarez; and his brothers-in-law, Ricardo (Elvia) Rojas, Reynaldo (Mary Lou) Rojas, Eliseo Antonio (Rosa) Coronado, and Jose Reyes.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Angela Rojas Light; his children, Basilio (Theresa) Light, Shirley Yvonne Light, and Robert (Jennifer) Light; his sisters-in-law, Rebecca (Jose) Sosa and Raquel Reyes; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
The family will receive condolences on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at Hillside Funerals and Cremations from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with a rosary to be celebrated at 7:00 PM. Funeral services will continue on Monday morning beginning at 7:00 AM. The funeral procession will depart the funeral home at 8:30 AM to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, where a Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 AM. Interment will follow at Hero’s Hall at the Laredo City Cemetery, where Military Honors will be rendered by the Laughlin Air Force Honors Guard and the Laredo Veteran Honor Guard.
Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we find comfort in knowing that Basilio’s life was one of purpose, integrity, and deep love. His example of faith, service, and devotion will forever remain in the hearts of those blessed to know him. May he rest in eternal peace.
