Listen to Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Maria Aurora "Bonnie" Ramirez Lepovitz, who passed away peacefully on October 24, 2026, one day before her 90th birthday, surrounded by the love of her family and friends.

Bonnie was born on October 25, 1936, in Laredo, Texas, to Jose DeLaRosa Ramirez and Maria Concepcion Rodriguez. Raised with strong values of faith, perseverance, and family, she carried those principles throughout her life and shared them generously with everyone she met.

Known simply as Bonnie to all who knew and loved her, she was admired for her warmth, intelligence, determination, and unwavering kindness. Her welcoming spirit and genuine interest in others made a lasting impression on countless lives.

A lifelong advocate for education and opportunity, Bonnie graduated from The University of Texas in 1958 with a degree in International Business. At a time when opportunities for Hispanic women in higher education were limited, she was among the first Hispanic women to earn a degree in that field from the university. Her achievement reflected her pioneering spirit, determination, and belief in the power of education to open doors for future generations.

In November 1960, Bonnie met the love of her life, Larry Lepovitz. Their connection was immediate and enduring, and they were married on February 11, 1961. Together they built a life founded on love, mutual respect, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Their marriage spanned nearly 59 years and remained a source of strength and joy until Larry's passing on December 27, 2019.

Together, Bonnie and Larry welcomed four children: Leslie Lyn Lepovitz, Lewis Lawrence Lepovitz, Lyndon Lloyd Lepovitz, and Lizabeth Lorraine Lepovitz. Bonnie embraced motherhood with the same dedication, patience, and love that characterized every aspect of her life. She took great pride in her children and delighted in their accomplishments, always providing guidance, encouragement, and unconditional support. Her greatest joy came from the family she and Larry created together, and she treasured every moment spent with them.

In 1971, Bonnie and Larry returned home to Laredo, Texas, where Bonnie would leave a lasting impact on the community. Recognizing the need for wellness education and healthy lifestyle support, she brought Weight Watchers to Laredo and served as a District Manager and Leader from 1971 to 1979.

During those years, Bonnie became a familiar and beloved figure to hundreds of Laredoans. More than a weight-loss instructor, she was a mentor, encourager, and advocate for healthy living. Known for her gracious and compassionate nature, she taught wellness and weight management in a positive, supportive, and sustainable way. Her emphasis on health, self-confidence, and personal well-being touched countless lives and helped many individuals achieve goals they once thought unattainable.

Bonnie's influence extended far beyond the classroom. Those who knew her through Weight Watchers remember not only the guidance she provided but also the kindness, patience, and genuine care she showed to every person who walked through the door. Her dedication to helping others live healthier and happier lives remains one of the many enduring contributions she made to the Laredo community.

In 1979, as the demands of Larry's growing business increased, Bonnie made the selfless decision to step away from her leadership role at Weight Watchers to work alongside her husband. Just as she had dedicated herself to helping others achieve healthier lives, she now devoted her talents, organizational skills, and unwavering support to helping Larry build and manage his business. Bonnie became a trusted partner in every sense of the word, contributing significantly to the success of the enterprise through her hard work, intelligence, and commitment. Her willingness to set aside personal accomplishments in support of her family reflected the generosity, loyalty, and strength that defined her character throughout her life.

Faith and family were at the center of Bonnie's life. As devoted Catholics, Bonnie and Larry were deeply committed to providing their children with a strong spiritual foundation and Catholic education. They proudly sent their four children to St. Peter's Elementary School and St. Augustine High School, where they were actively involved in school life and the broader Catholic community.

Bonnie and Larry were dedicated members of the Parent-Teacher Association and played an important role in supporting Catholic education in Laredo. Among their most significant contributions was their involvement in the efforts that led to the relocation of the St. Augustine campus from its downtown location to its current site on Galveston Street. They believed deeply in the value of faith-based education and worked tirelessly to help create opportunities for future generations of students.

Beyond her work and community service, Bonnie found her greatest happiness in time spent with family and friends. She loved gathering loved ones around her table, celebrating holidays and milestones, and creating traditions that would be cherished for years to come. Her Catholic faith guided her throughout her life, shaping her compassion, generosity, and unwavering commitment to serving others. Bonnie's life was a beautiful example of faith in action, demonstrated through her love, kindness, and dedication to her family and community.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Larry Lepovitz; her parents, Jose DeLaRosa Ramirez and Maria Concepcion Rodriguez; her siblings, Jose "Pepe" Ramirez, Roberto "Beto" Ramirez, and Maria Del Carmen Ramirez Rendon; and her son-in-law, Bill Young.

She is survived by her loving children, Leslie L. Young, Lewis L. Lepovitz (Lillian), Lloyd Lepovitz (Emilse "Millie"), and Lizabeth Solcher (Daniel).

Bonnie's greatest joy was her family, and she was especially proud of her cherished grandchildren: Charlotte Young (Zach Robinson), Victoria Young Gavlick (Cole), Sapphire Young, Laeree Lepovitz, Richard J. Lepovitz (Danielle), Robert J. Lepovitz (Alexis), Robert Garcia, Mauricio Garcia, Lyndsey L. Lepovitz, Lyndon J. Lepovitz, and Sophia A. Solcher. She treasured each of them individually and delighted in watching them grow, pursue their dreams, and build families and lives of their own. Her love, wisdom, encouragement, and unwavering support will remain a lasting gift to each of them.

She was also blessed with beloved great-grandchildren, Julius D. Washington, Jase Robinson, and Rylan Robinson, who brought her tremendous happiness and pride in her later years. She delighted in watching the family grow and treasured every opportunity to share in their lives, milestones, and accomplishments.

Bonnie is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, and godchildren, all of whom held a special place in her heart. Her love, wisdom, faith, and generosity will continue to live on through the many family members and friends whose lives she touched.

Bonnie's legacy lives on through the generations that follow her, carrying forward the values of faith, compassion, perseverance, and family that she embodied throughout her remarkable life.

She will be remembered for her strength of character, her devotion to family, her grace in the face of challenges, and her belief in the importance of education, service, and love. Her legacy lives on through the many people she inspired and the lives she touched.

As we celebrate Bonnie's remarkable life, we give thanks for her nearly ninety years of love, resilience, achievement, and compassion. Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
