CMSgt (Ret.) James F. Vollmer, Jr., aged 76, of Manchaca, Texas, passed away on March 28, 2025, at his residence surrounded by loved ones. Jim was born on March 26, 1949, in Stillwater, MN, the son of late James F. and Mae (Lamere) Vollmer.
Jim was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Maria Zapata Vollmer, grandson, Jameson Welling, and brothers-in-law Dan Bruggeman and Mark Mohler.
He is survived by his three daughters Marti Powers-Curry (Steve), Mary Anne Owens (Ian), and Veronica Castanon; grandchildren Jessica Worden (Topher), Tucker Curry, Jenna Castanon, Maria Castanon, Tristan Owens, Dylan Owens, William Welling, Bryson Owens, and Elizabeth Welling; great granddaughter Anna Worden; brothers and sisters Midge Mohler, Mary Jo Bruggeman, George Vollmer (LeAnn), Jon Vollmer (Kenichi Itasaka), Paul Vollmer (Nancy), Laurie Hankee (Mike), and Peter Vollmer (LeAnn); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jim joined the U.S. Air Force where he served 30 distinguished years in civil engineering. He served overseas in the Vietnam and Gulf Wars. He achieved the highest rank in the enlisted force as Chief Master Sergeant and was awarded numerous service and campaign medals and ribbons.
After retirement, Jim worked as a project manager for J&J Worldwide Services and PCSI out of Austin, TX.
Those who knew Jim will remember him for his sense of humor, love of Minnesota Vikings football, and Budweiser but most of all the love for his wife, Maria, and his family.
He was a member of Santa Cruz Catholic Church, Buda, TX.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at San Martin de Porres Catholic Church on Saturday, May 31, 2025, with the time currently pending.
Rite of Committal and Interment will be held at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest.
