Gonzalo Fuentes

Gonzalo Fuentes, 84, was called by the Lord on July 25, 2026 after a year-long battle with illness.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Enrique Fuentes and Mercedes Garcia, and by his brother, Enrique Fuentes (Amalia).

Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 58 years, Elva Fuentes; his sons, Eduardo Gonzalo (Lupita), Carlos Alberto (Elsa), and Dr. Javier Fuentes (Abby Martinez); his grandchildren, Isabel, Alejandro, Dr. Selina Gutierrez (Ramon), Carlos Jr., and Mia; his great-granddaughter, Lucia Gutierrez; his nephew, Dr. Luis Enrique Fuentes; his nieces, Leticia and Gabriela; along with numerous other relatives and dear friends.

Shortly after marrying the love of his life, Elva, he moved from Mexico to the United States in 1968 in pursuit of greater opportunities and a brighter future for those he loved. Gonzalo dedicated much of his life to the gas drilling industry, where he became known for his unwavering work ethic and commitment to providing for his family.

A remarkably hardworking man, Gonzalo often held two full-time jobs simultaneously, sacrificing countless hours of rest so his family could enjoy a stable and loving home. Despite the demands of work, he always made time to create lasting memories with his wife and sons, taking them on road trips and enjoying days together at parks, lakes, and the beach.

Following his retirement from the gas industry, Gonzalo continued serving others through a career in retail sales with Montgomery Ward and Lack's Furniture, where his friendly nature and dedication earned the respect of both customers and colleagues.

Perhaps Gonzalo’s greatest legacy was the example he set through perseverance, hard work, integrity, and the value he placed on education. His encouragement and sacrifices laid the foundation for his sons to pursue their own professional paths, including two who became pharmacists and one who became a nurse. His daughters‑in‑law, both dedicated healthcare professionals—one a pharmacist and the other a nurse—and his grandchildren, who have pursued their passions in medical, computer, and culinary fields, provided invaluable support throughout Gonzalo’s care. Their knowledge, compassion, and dedication reflected the very values of service and commitment that Gonzalo instilled in his family. In many ways, the care, support, and diverse strengths and talents contributed by his loved ones during his final journey became one of the greatest blessings and stands as a lasting testament to the values and legacy he built.

Though he will be deeply missed, Gonzalo will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his quiet strength, his tireless work ethic, his valiant effort through illness, and the enduring legacy of love, sacrifice, and family unity that he leaves behind.

Pallbearers will be Eduardo Gonzalo Fuentes, Carlos Alberto Fuentes, Javier Christian Fuentes, Alejandro Fuentes, and Carlos Fuentes Jr.

A visitation will be held on Friday July 31, 2026, from 5 to 8pm at Hillside Funerals and Cremations, where a Rosary to be recited at 7pm.

Funeral Service will be held Saturday, August 1, 2026, from 7 to 9:00am at Hillside Funerals and Cremations. We will be departing the funeral home chapel at 9:00am to San Martin de Porres Catholic Church for a Mass at 9:30am.
