Homero A. Martinez, 82, entered into eternal rest at the Alfredo Gonzalez Texas State Veterans Home , in McAllen, Texas, with his loving wife and sons by his side.Homero was born in Laredo, Texas on October 13, 1937. After he graduated from Martin High School, he enlisted in the United States Army Reserve. He completed his Armor Training at Fort Knox, KY, and served his country proudly achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant.In 1963, Homero married the love of his life, Adelina Guerra and together they raised three sons. He worked as a foreman for Border Foundry Machine Shop and later as the manager of Texas Hardware. He was well known for his expertise in water pumps. Many ranchers would come to see him for his advice and skills. His passion was ranching and the outdoors. He enjoyed working cattle, riding horses, building fences, burning prickly pear, and climbing to repair windmills.Homero was a hardworker and took great pride in all his work. He was honest, loyal, and a great leader who could get any job done. He will be greatly missed. We are grateful to everyone at the Alfredo Gonzalez Texas State Veterans Home, especially the dedicated and compassionate nurses, CNA’s and Staff of the 800 hall and activities center. Homero is preceded in death by his baby daughter, Yvette Nadine Martinez; parents, Regina Garza Martinez, and Epigmenio Martinez; siblings, Elvira M. Charo, Hilda M. Valdez, Federico Martinez, Elmira M. Espinoza, Ofelia Tellez, and Eugenio Martinez.He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Adelina G. Martinez; sons, Homero A. (Therese) Martinez Jr., Richard M. (Nancy) Martinez, and David N. Martinez; grandchildren, Richard Jr., Regina “Gina”, Emily, and Justin; brother, Oscar Martinez.A memorial service, will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2020, at the Hillside Funeral Home Chapel from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A catholic vigil of the deceased will be held at 12:00 p.m.In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the American Parkinson Disease Association. www.apdaparkinson.org/1907d3l/ Private inurnment will be held at a later date.
