Humberto Villarreal

Humberto “Chamiro” Villarreal, 90, passed away peacefully at home on August 1, 2026 surrounded by his

loving family. He will be deeply missed as he was a bright shining light to all those that knew him. His smile

and friendly face exemplified the joy and positivity that he shared so freely. He was a beloved and devoted

father, grandfather, godfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

Humberto graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy in 1955 where he excelled in several sports including football,

baseball, track and boxing. He served as Captain of the football team. He was an All-Star third baseman in the

American Legion ball and played for the Laredo B-52 Flyers, one of the top-ranked semi pro teams in the state.

He was signed to a professional baseball contract after his graduation but decided to pursue employment with

Southwestern Bell Telephone Co., where he worked as a lineman and install/repairman for 33 years.

He joined the U.S. Army Reserves and trained with the Infantry Division at Ft. Chafee, Arkansas. He served five

and a half years in the Eighth U.S. Army Reserve and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant in

1964.

Humberto had a passion for serving God. He served as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion and he

would distribute the Holy Eucharist to those that were sick or homebound. He served as a leader for the El

Movimiento de Cursillos Cristiandad and was recently recognized for 50 years of dedicated service to the

Cursillo. Throughout his dedication to the Cursillo, he served as a National Hispanic Coordinator where he

traveled all over the world guiding others on the Cursillo’s mission of deepening their relationship with Jesus

Christ.

He is preceded in death by his parents Agapito Villarreal – Cardenas, Maria de Jesus T. Villarreal, brother

Geronimo (Jerry) Villarreal, and baby sister Dora Alicia Villarreal.

He is survived by his siblings, Agapito L. Villarreal, Dora Alicia Villarreal, Consuelo V. Buchanan and sister-in-law

Irma D. (Loly) Villarreal. His memory will also be cherished by his daughters Terry Woodruff (Jimmy), Veronica

“Ronnie” McElvany (Kim), and Christelle Farias (Felipe) and by his grandchildren Aubrey Woodruff, Austin

Woodruff, Zachary McElvany, Andrew McElvany, Anissa Farias Perez (David), Alessandro Farias and other

relatives. He is also survived by the Trevino Family (Socorro Trevino, Carmen Carolina Joshi, Hugo Trevino)

who were a very special part of his life.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 9, 2026 at Hillside Funerals and Cremations, 310 W. Hillside Rd., Laredo, Texas from 5:00pm-9:00pm with a Rosary to be recited at 7pm.

Visitation will continue Monday, August 10, 2026 from 7:00 – 9:00am. A funeral procession will depart the

funeral home on Monday, August 10, 2026 at 9:30am to St. Patrick’s Catholic, 555 E. Del Mar Blvd. for a Mass at 10:00am.

 Interment will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 3600 McPherson Rd. Laredo, Texas.
