Imelda S. Villarreal

August 9, 1951 — August 31, 2020

Imelda S. Villarreal, 69, entered into eternal peace on Monday, August 31, 2020, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease in Laredo, Texas.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Alejandro Salinas and Olivia Trease; grandparents, Gregorio and Irene Sanchez, Santiago and Ramona Salinas; sister, Joni De La Rosa and grandson, Gael Antonio Ramos.

Imelda was born August 9, 1951, in Del Rio, Texas, to Alejandro and Olivia Salinas. Upon graduation from Del Rio High School she proceeded to pursue a degree in Education at Texas A&I University in Kingsville, TX. During her pursuit of education, she met the love of her life, Juventino Villarreal, who she later married in June 1974. Upon marriage they relocated and made a home in Laredo, TX, where they shared 3 children, Clarissa Celina, Monica Patricia and Juventino III.  She passionately taught 1st grade for 32 years at Farias Elementary School until she retired in 2004.   

During her professional career she made many friends who admired her loving personality, humorous nature and her selfless ways of thinking of others before herself which made her one of a kind. She had a contagious laugh that lit up a room. Her passion and love she demonstrated for her grandchildren was extraordinary.

She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Juventino Villarreal; children, Clarissa (Raul) Guardiola, Monica (Jose Antonio) Ramos, and Juventino Villarreal III; grandchildren, Alejandro Emanuel Guardiola, Allen Elijah Guardiola, Daniella Alisse Ramos, and Joaquin Antonio Ramos. She is also survived by her brother, Daniel Salinas of Beeville, TX, special family friend Timothy Aguirre and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family and friends in Texas and California.

The family would like to thank her devoted caregivers Perla, Monica and Fernanda.  They would also like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Carlos Casas, Dr. Benson Huang and the ICU staff at Laredo Medical Center.

A viewing will be held on Friday, September 4, 2020, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  A prayer service will take place at 7:00 p.m.  

Funeral service will be held Saturday, September 5, 2020, at 9:00 a.m. at Hillside Funeral Home with procession to the family plot at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Juventino Villarreal III, Daniel Salinas, Armando Sanchez, Alejandro Guardiola, Jose Antonio Ramos and Raul Guardiola. Honorary Pallbearers Allen Guardiola, Daniella Ramos and Joaquin Ramos.  

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the family kindly asks all those wishing to express their condolences in person to maintain social distancing orders, all necessary restrictions will be observed in order to protect the health and safety of those in attendance. In accordance with the city ordinance, the number of visitors will be limited. All visitors must wear face coverings while inside building. Hand sanitizer is provided upon entry. Continue to practice social distancing while inside the funeral home chapel.
