Jesus E. Cantu

August 11, 1959 — November 8, 2020

Jesus E. Cantu, 61, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, November 8, 2020, in Laredo, Texas.

Jesus Cantu, together with his brothers and sisters, started Mariachi Aztlan back in 1987 thru 2007. They competed and entertained locally and all over the United States. Mariachi Aztlan had the honor to be the first mariachi to play at our nation’s capital in Washington, D.C. They also accompanied many artists and singers, such as Rocio Dúrcal, Los Buquis, Bobby Pulido, Emilio Navaira and Alicia Villarreal. He worked for the City Building Department as a Building Inspector and a Building Plans Examiner for 20 years. He was a very generous and selfless person always helping others. He was a loving and caring brother, uncle, husband, father and grandfather. He was also humble, funny, full of life, he enjoyed traveling, he loved camping. He will be greatly missed by all those who loved him.

Mr. Cantu is preceded in death by his parents, Jesus and Emilia Cantu.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Rosa E. Cantu; children, Melissa Y. (Marcus) Martinez, Ricardo A. (Julie) Garcia Jr.; grandchildren, Jaicee Gallegos, Olivia Martinez, and Vivianne Martinez; siblings, Carlos Cantu (Adriana P.), Raul Cantu (Dinora), Francisco Javier Cantu (Adriana R.), Juanita I. Torres (Salvador), Marta P. Hinojosa (Alfredo), and Sylvia Torres (Juan Alberto). Mr. Cantu is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A rosary will be recited on Thursday, November 12, 2020, at 7:00 p.m. in the Hillside Funeral Home Chapel. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 13, 2020, at 9:30 a.m. from Hillside Funeral Home to Christ the King Church. A mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m.

Interment will follow to the family plot at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the family kindly asks all those wishing to express their condolences in person to wear face masks and maintain social distancing orders.  In accordance with the city ordinance, the number of visitors will be limited.  We continue to ask that those at risk or those not feeling well stay home and reach out to the family through our website www.hillsidefuneral.com.
