In Loving Memory of John W. Gullette
October 2, 1951 – March 29, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, John Gullette, who left this world peacefully on to his next journey on March 29th at the age of 73, surrounded by loved ones.
Born in San Antonio, Texas in 1951, John attended Robert E. Lee High-School, and South West Texas State University of San Marcos, where he not only prospered as a decorated student with his immense love for reading, and as a prominent athlete, but where he found a deep love of rock music, nature, the outdoors like his favorites fishing, racket ball, and even archery. Eventually his path led him to Laredo, Texas where he set his roots down after he met his loving wife of 40 years and chose to raise his family which he treasured. He provided for them through his many ventures, whether cooking as a an amazing chef, his time as a park ranger, or in his later years as a social worker. His guidance leaves an everlasting warmth of love for his family and for those lucky enough that he encountered whether he met them through his professions, or just the simple everyday acts of kindness. His legacy was of compassion, hard work, and integrity.
John W. Gullette is preceded in death by his parents, James Vernon Gullette and Joan Katherine Gullette; his beloved niece, Angela Reyes; his mother and father in law: Daniel F. Mendoza and Estella R. Mendoza.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife: Cynthia Mendoza Gullette; his daughters: Jessica Tobias (Robert) and Lela Rose Gullette; his sons: Jeremy Daniel Gullette and Robert Donald (Kristina) Gray; his sister Janet (Rick) Reyes, his grandchildren: Robert Tobias, Ronin Tobias, Kali Tobias, Keilani Tobias, Xander Gray; alongside his beloved in-laws: Lety (Gilbert) Mendoza, Patsy (Joe) Garcia, and Danny (Alicia) Mendoza, as well as his loving nieces and nephews.
We thank you for the time and patience. While our hearts ache deeply in his absence, we find comfort in knowing that his spirit lives on in the lessons he taught us, the immense love he gave, and the amazing memories we made together that we get to carry and pass on forever.
A memorial service will be held at Hillside Funerals and Cremations on Friday, May 30, 2025 from 5 pm to 8 pm.
In lieu of flowers, even though he was an amazing master gardener, our family requests that donations may be made to the local animal advocates like Laredo Animal Protective Society, Best Friends for Life, or Freedom Ranch in honor of the passion and love he had for all his four legged babies he left behind and every other animal that got to experience his generous spirit.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Hillside Funerals & Cremations; 310 W Hillside Road, Laredo, Texas, 78041; 956.724.6060
