Juanita G. Lira

On March 15, 2024, God decided the journey that our beloved, Juanita G. Lira had traveled throughout her earthly life, would now be completed as she was welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven. Her parting leaves a void in our hearts, but one that is and will forever be filled by the countless memories we will hold dear.
Juanita grew up in the Rio Grande Valley and shortly after her marriage and her first-born son, they moved to Laredo, where she and her husband raised the rest of the family. Immediately, she became a very active parent in the J.W. Nixon Athletic and Band Programs, throughout her children's education. Her other civic engagements included being a member of the Red Hat Society, LARSA, as well as other civic and social clubs.
One of her most cherished associations was being a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, St. Mary Magdalene Court #1989. She was a woman of great faith and perseverance and now is resting in the presence of God and all those that have welcomed her into paradise.
Juanita was born on November 24, 1937, in Mercedes, Texas. She was the daughter of Ezequiel and Guadalupe Gonzalez Garza, who preceded her in death. She was married to Vicente Lira, who also precedes her in death.
She comes from a long and joyous family, including her children: Dennis Vincent (Laura) Lira, Cynthia Ann (Dr. Francisco Gutierrez) Lira, Charles Andrew (Mercedes) Lira Sr., Sandra Kay (+Jose Luis Magaña) Lira-Magaña. Grandchildren: Christina D. (Sergio) Ramirez, Charles A. (Veronica) Lira Jr., Richard D. (Amy) Lira, Alyna Nicole Lira, Yessenia E. Magaña, Oscar V. (Lauren Patton) Lira, Alexandra L. (Juan Jose) Dominguez Jr., and Anthony R. Magaña. Great-grandchildren: Ethan V. Lira, Dimitri A. Smeltz, Aria H. Ramirez, Anastasia M. Magaña, Mylo A. Lira, Izabelle N. Lira, Juan J. Dominguez III, Gilberto Ezequiel Rogelio Dominguez, and Myles A. Lira. Siblings: +Alfredo (Rosa) Garza, Rudy (+Rosa) Garza, +Gilberto (Debbie) Garza, Arnold (Karen) Garza, +Ezequiel Garza, as well as numerous cherished nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will receive condolences on Friday, April 5, 2024, from 5 to 9 pm at Hillside Funerals & Cremations. A Rosary for the repose of her soul will be offered by the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court St. Mary Magdalene #1989 at 5:30 pm. A Vigil for the Deceased will be offered at 7 pm by Rev. Deacon Rogelio Martinez Jr.
There will be a funeral procession departing the funeral chapel at 10:30 am, on Saturday, April 6, 2024, to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, where a funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am.
A private cremation and interment will be held later at the family plot in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Cynthia A. Lira, Charles A. Lira Jr., Richard D. Lira, Oscar V. Lira, Dr. Francisco J. Gutierrez, Alyna N. Lira, Alexandra L. Dominguez, Sergio G. Ramirez, and Juan Jose Dominguez Jr.Honorary pallbearer: Anthony R. Magaña.
