Laurencio Villarreal, or “Papi” as he was affectionately called by his loving family passed away peacefully on April 21, 2026. He left behind a legacy built on devotion to family, a lifelong love of baseball and the proud tradition of ranching that shaped his day and character. At the heart of Laurencio’s life was his beautiful, beloved wife of 70 years, Pura Villarreal. Pura was evident in every chapter of their life. Together they built a home filled with love, faith, and companionship that anchored the family.
Laurencio spent many dedicated years working for the Killam family ranch, where he poured his skill, discipline and pride into the land and livestock he cared for. Above all Laurencio was a family man. His greatest pride was his family and the life he built with Pura. His family will forever remember his stories and laughter.
He is preceded in death by Leopoldo Villarreal (Father), Paula Montemayor Villarreal (Mother), Maria Irene Villarreal (Stepmother), Pedro Villarreal, David F. Ramirez, Enedina Villarreal, Ramon Villarreal, and Laurencio Villarreal Jr..
Laurencio is survived by his loving wife Pura Villarreal and his children Abelardo Villarreal (Norma), Juan Villarreal (Cristina), Dora Ramirez (David+), Nora Villarreal, Linda Gaytan (Manuel), Bertha V. Lopez (Beto), and Ramon Villarreal (Clarissa). His children will carry his memories forward and the traditions he cherished and values he instilled. Also surviving him are 18 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, other relatives, and friends. Siblings Teresa Cassiano (Carlos), Amelia Villarreal, Maria Luisa Martinez (Isabel+), Francisco Villarreal (Edna), and Rosa Inocencio (Roberto).
Pallbearers will be Abelardo Villarreal Jr., Juan P. Villarreal Jr., Dariel E. Ramirez, David F. Ramirez Jr., Josue M. Gaytan, Leopoldo (Beto) Lopez, and Ramon Villarreal. Honorary pallbearers will be Francisco Estrada, Ernesto Briones, Dionicio Reyes, and Juan Villarreal.
Services honoring Laurencio’s life will be on Friday, April 24, 2026 from 8:00 am to 9:30 am at Hillside Funerals and Cremations 310 Hillside Rd, Laredo Texas with a rosary at 8:30am. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am at San Luis Rey Catholic Church followed by burial at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
The family invites all who knew him to join in celebrating a life lived with purpose, loyalty, and deep love. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Redeemer Hospice team, caregivers, and all those that provided comfort, compassion, and support during Laurencio’s final days.
