Maria del Carmen Solis

July 16, 1931 — March 21, 2024

Laredo, Texas

Our beloved Maria del Carmen Solis, to all those that loved her Carmelita, has gone to her eternal rest, and now joins her husband, son, parents, and other relatives in Heaven. God called her home on March 21, 2024, having been surrounded by her loving family by her side. She was born in Silao, Guanajuato, Mexico on July 16, 1931.

She was the proud owner of Camellia's Flower Shop located on Garza Street for over 64 years. Her endeavors continue to this day with her daughter-in-law and granddaughter continuing her legacy. She began working in the floral industry at the early age of 15, having started her journey at American Beauty Flower Shop in the 1940's. Her clients affectionately knew her as "Señora Camellia". If you were a client of hers, you were certainly touched by her kindness and generosity. The warmth of her heart put a smile on your face. Not only her customers, but all those that needed a helping hand were sure to leave with a beautiful memory.

At the age of 19, she met the love of her life, Ernesto Solis, a chance encounter at a party with members of the Armed Forces from the then, Laredo Air Force Base. As soon as she gazed his eyes, it was a match made for life, until his passing in 2002. She is now finally reunited with him.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband: Ernesto Zaragosa Solis; son: Ernesto Zaragoza Solis, Jr. parents: Antonio y Angela Saldaña; siblings: Encarnacion Lopez, Elvira Abrego and Salvador Saldaña.

Left behind to cherish her memory are her son: Edgardo (Lupita) Solis; grandchildren: Martha Y. (Ricky Pompa) Solis, Venessa L. (Primo) Nuñez, Brenda Lee (Adiel) Contreras, Luis F. (Elizabeth) Solis, Monica Solis, Ernesto Z. Solis III, Edgardo Z. Solis, Diana Solis, Karina Solis, Erica Solis, Maria Solis, Kacy Solis, Rocky Solis, Lucina S.
