She is survived by her loving husband, Dr. Homero R. Sanchez, Jr.; her children, Homero (Karen Gustafson) Sanchez, III, Cecilia (Kris Galvan) Sanchez, and Christina (Greg) Blackford; her grandchildren Christian and Charlotte Blackford, and Benicio Galvan; her brothers and sisters, Maria Teresa (Chuy) Cavazos, Francisco J. Mendoza, Patsi Sanchez, Carlos (Anabel) Sanchez, Javier Sanchez, and Cindy Sanchez.  She is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, and other relatives, and friends. Mary Esther graduated from Ursuline Academy in 1967.  She immediately began her college education at Laredo Junior College, where she met Homero whom she would eventually wed on June 12, 1976.  She studied education, receiving her Bachelor’s degree from The University of Texas at Austin and her Master’s Degree from Our Lady of the Lake University. After teaching Special Education in San Antonio for several years, she retired from the classroom in 1979 to raise her twins Homero and Cecilia.  She and her husband welcomed their third child, Christina in 1983. Mary Esther was a devoted wife and mother and was very involved with her children’s school and extra-curricular activities, being sure to instill in them the importance of education and an appreciation for the arts.  When she wasn’t busy with her children, she helped manage her husband’s medical practice. She was also a faithful Catholic and loving woman who devoted much of her time to the Church, her community and to her friends and family.  In recent years, she welcomed her grandchildren Christian, Charlotte and Benicio, whom she loved to spoil and proudly talk about.  She never left out or forgot her fur grandbabies, Lila and Ollie, whom she also loved dearly. Mary Esther was a gentle, compassionate woman who loved unconditionally and gave without the expectation of receiving anything in return. She lived her life for others and was a faithful servant of God. She will be greatly missed by so many. A rosary will be recited on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. in the Hillside Funeral Home chapel.  A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 25, 2019 at 11:15 a.m. from Hillside Funeral Home to Christ the King Catholic Church.  Mass will be celebrated at 11:45 a.m. Interment will follow in the family plot of the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to the Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra, Salesian Sisters of Saint John Bosco, or the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians.
