Olivia M. Aguilar

October 5, 1929 — April 26, 2019

Olivia M. Aguilar, 89, passed away on Friday, April 26, 2019, in Laredo, Texas. Olivia worked at Kress department store in downtown Laredo where she met her loving husband when she was 20 years old. When her children were members of the Martin High School Tiger Marching Band she became an avid supporter, becoming Booster club president. She was a devout member of Holy Redeemer Church which was a few blocks away from her home and she could often be found walking to mass on Sundays. Her church community became her second family and she regularly volunteered at the yearly Jamaica selling raffle tickets and cooking food for which she was famously known. Later in life she moved from her beloved hometown to live in Houston with her granddaughter Deanna and her favorite “granddog” Douglas. They along with her daughter Diana had the honor to be her caregivers, who took care of her as she once did for them. Without a doubt, she was happy to return to Laredo to live out the rest of her life. The family would like to thank her “palomita”, neighbor and family friend Juanita Rendon, who was always there for her as well as her physician Dr. Carlos Llanes who never gave up on her health.  She is preceded in death by husband, Valentin Aguilar Sr.; daughter, Rosalinda Ramirez; son, David Aguilar; and her parents, Francisco Medrano and Maria Magdalena Bustos.Mrs. Aguilar is survived by her children, Diana A. (Ramon) Mendoza, Valentin Aguilar Jr., and Maria Raquel Aguilar. She is also survived by her sister, Juanita Bustos, and many other relatives and friends. A rosary will be recited on Sunday, April 28, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. in the Hillside Funeral Home chapel.  A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 29, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. from Hillside Funeral Home to Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow to the City of Laredo Cemetery.  If you would like to sign the guestbook or send private condolences, you may do so at www.hillsidefuneral.com Arrangements are under the direction of Hillside Funeral Home, 310 Hillside Rd.
