Oscar R. Puente, 76, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, in Laredo, Texas. Born on December 21, 1949, he was the youngest of six children and lived a life grounded in hard work, family, and strong values.
Oscar was a devoted and loving father to his four children, Tanya Judith Puente (Pedro Alfaro), Bobbie Jo Puente, Shanna Jannette Puente, and Charles Edward Puente (Leslie Lizeth Puente). He was a proud grandfather to Emilie Kaitlin Leza; Ashley Jadyn and Alexa Jordan Alfaro, Sofia Luciana and Liana Grace Elizondo; and Leslie Villarreal and Anthony Jacob Puente. Also great-grandfather to Mateo Andres Sanchez.
He is survived by his beloved sister, Yolanda Puente Lopez; his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many extended famly members and friends who loved him deeply. Oscar also cherished his companion, Elia Valdez, with whom he shared a meaningful relationship.
Oscar was a respected business owner of Carlos Puente Food Store, where he became well known throughout the Laredo community. His store was more than a business - it was a reflection of who he was.
A hardworking, smart, and fiercely independent man, Oscar was deeply proud of the life he built. He was a loving and protective father, a true family man, and a steady presence in his children's lives. He taught by example, demonstrating, dedication, integrity, and a strong work ethic.
Oscar was also funny, stubborn, and full of wisdom. He gave the best advise, valued common sense, and enjoyed meaningful conversations just as much as playful teasing. He was respected, admired, and loved beyond measure.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carlos Puente, Sr. and Luciana Medina Puente; his spouse, Sandy Ramon Puente; his brothers, Carlos Puente Jr. and Juan Arnoldo Puente, and his sisters, Elia P. Garza and Amparo P. Cantu.
Above all, Oscar Puente was a man who loved his family deeply. His strength, guidance, and presence will be profoundly missed, but his legacy lives on through the lives he shaped and the values he instilled.
