Rafael “Larry” Benavidez Jr., 78, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother passed away at his home on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, with his family by his side.
Larry was born on November 2, 1943, in Alice, TX. There he met his wife of 55 years, Noelia Benavidez, and had two beautiful children.
Larry served his country from 1961 to 1965. He went on to work for FESCO Petroleum Engineering for 33 years. He was an avid Harley Davidson motorcycle enthusiast. He was a member of Los Carnales La Familia. Larry enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family.
Rafael is preceded in death by his mother, Diamantina Alviar, father, Rafael Benavidez Sr., and grandson Jesse Benavidez.
He is survived by his wife Noelia Benavidez; son, Larry (Rebecca) Benavidez Jr., and daughter, Melanie Benavidez (Jorge Madrigal); brothers, Rolando (Emma) Benavidez, Sonny (Norma) Benavidez; sisters, Ginger Bowen, Linda Ramirez, and Penny (Jerry) Coleman. He is also survived by six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A rosary will be recited on Monday, February 28, 2022, at 9:30 a.m. in the Hillside Funeral Home Chapel. A visitation will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. A formal procession will follow to St. John Neumann Catholic Church where a mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m.
Interment will follow to the City of Laredo Cemetery.
