Rene A Escobedo

December 28, 1952 — March 29, 2020

Rene A. Escobedo, 67, passed from this earthly life into eternal life on Sunday, March 29, 2020 in Laredo, Texas. BORN: Rene was born on December 28, 1952, in Harlingen, Tx., the son of Guadalupe and Benita Escobedo, who preceded him in death in 1961 and 2004. Also preceded in death, was his daughter Vanessa Renee Escobedo who died shortly after birth in 1974 and his beloved fur baby Labrador Mojo who died in 2018. EARLY YEARS: Rene grew up along with his 2 brothers and 3 sisters. He took a liking to fishing, dancing, and music. EDUCATION & CAREER: Rene graduated from Harlingen High School with the graduating class of 1971. He was employed with Beall’s Department Stores for many years before retirement. Besides spending time with family and friends, Rene’s passion for fishing, dancing, and music was never-ending. He enjoyed fishing at South Padre Island beach, where he frequently took his family on excursions. Later in life, he enjoyed beachcombing and collected a variety of ocean shells and driftwood. The beach was his “happy place”. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Joanna Escobedo, & Alma Flores, the mother of his children. His three children Vanessa Escobedo (Charles), Monica Escobedo, and Michael Escobedo (Lucero). He is also survived by six grandchildren: Ricardo Rodriguez, Michael Ortega, Victor Solis, Nicholas Solis, Aiden Escobedo, and Mia Escobedo. Also, surviving are two brothers & three sisters: Guadalupe Escobedo (Bea), Hector Escobedo (Yolanda), Angelita Rodriguez (Silvano), Amparo Escobedo (Memito), Alicia Aparicio (Omar), and brother in law Rodolfo “Rudy” Garza Jr. (Amy). He leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews and boundless friendships. Rene was a lover of life! He was always happy to welcome, and get to know a new face. Always the life of the party. He was a wonderful father to his children who he loved unconditionally. He was kind and humble hearted and wore his heart on his sleeve. He was a loving husband and my best friend. We will all miss him terribly, but in spite of that, he is now with our Lord and in a much more “happy place”, Heaven. Visitation will be at the Hillside Funeral Chapel on Thursday, April 2, 2020, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. If you would like to sign the guestbook or send private condolences, you may do so at www.hillsidefuneral.com Arrangements are under the direction of Hillside Funeral Home, 310 Hillside Road.
