Rev. Deacon Mr. Edmundo Orlando Lopez, a faithful servant in the vineyard of the Lord has returned to the father’s eternal home in Heaven on May 29, 2025, in Laredo, Texas. Deacon Mundo was born on April 19, 1936, in Honduras, Central America, the son of the late Manuel Osmundo and Maria Josefa Z. Lopez.

Early in his life journey, Deacon Edmundo s family moved to Laredo, Texas. Mundo was a brilliant and accurate accountant. He worked for various public and private entities over the years. Having worked for the Diocese of Laredo for over 15 years. Part of his mission on this earth was to minister and serve in his role as an ordained Deacon to the communities of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and Mission Santa Cruz in West Laredo. Two of the places that he felt at peace the most and truly enjoyed giving to that community. Deacon Mundo was ordained to the Holy Order of the Diaconate on December 2, 2000, a mere 4 months from the of the Diocese of Laredo (Aug. 9, 2000). His ordination was held at the Cathedral of San Agustin. It was on that day that he was charged with spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ and ministering to the communities he was assigned too. Deacon Mundo lived his Cursillo and served the Lord in the Cursillo movement for many years.

Deacon Mundo met the love of his life, Maria Magdalena, and married her, a marriage that lasted 65 years. God blessed their marriage union with 3 sons, one of which was taken at a young age, and who we know is together with at last. Mundo had a soft and humble demeanor, and a smile that could light up the darkest room. It is his legacy that the leaves behind that will be forever remembered and honored by his family He will be missed, may his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of Christ, rest in peace.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Manuel Osmundo and Maria Josefa Z. Lopez; his son: Jorge Alberto Lopez; brothers: Carlos Alonzo Lopez and Oscar Armando Lopez.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Maria Magdalena Lopez; sons: Edmundo (Elizabeth) Lopez III and Jose Luis (San Juana T.) Lopez; siblings: Nelly (Tom) Laurencelle, Miriam (Antonio) Fernandez, Leonor (Ramon) Benavides, Manuel (Sandra) Lopez, Mario (Leyla) Lopez; sisters-in-law: Consuelo Lopez and Nora Carmen Lopez; grandchildren: Edmundo (Carolina Barron) Lopez IV, Manoella E. (Ricardo) Rodriguez, Edmundo Lopez V, Olivia Lopez, Evelyn Lopez, Sophia Maldonado, Madelyn E. Lopez, Rainey Rodriguez, and Darla A. Lopez, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends he made along the way.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mission Santa Cruz, and/or the Diocese of Laredo Vocations Program.

Deacon Mundo will lie in state on Monday, June 9, 2025, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Visiting times will be from 5 to 9 pm. A Vigil for the Deceased and Rosary will be offered at 7 pm.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at Hillside Funerals and Cremations from 7 am until the time of departure at 10:30 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church at 11 am.

The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow the mass at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
