Mr. Robert Joseph Canen, 90, was called to the eternal home of God, the Almighty on August 14, 2025, in Laredo, Texas. Bob was born on May 10, 1935, in Paw Paw, Michigan, the son of the late John Walter Canen and Helen Irene Swinehart. He was a transplant to Laredo, Texas, via the former Laredo Air Force Base. He met the love of his life, Maria de Jesus Valenzuela, and together lived many wonderful, loving and happy years.
Bob joined the US Air Force in 1955 and served a total of 8 years, 8 months, and 25 days in active duty.
Bob was an avid dog enthusiast, always having a caring heart for God's little creatures. He was the epitome of a great neighbor, excellent gardener, movie enthusiast, and caring neighbor to many. He proudly displayed the American flag at his home, beautifully maintained his yard and was always ready to help others. Although Robert may not have been born and raised in Laredo, Texas, he truly had a heart for this city.
He is preceded in death by his parents: John Walter Canen and Helen Irene Canen; his son, Joe Albert Kinnard; siblings: Marilyn Jeanee Canen, Jack Canen, Ida May Stump, Vera I. Reynolds.
Bob is lovingly survived by his adored spouse, Maria de Jesus "Bea" Valenzuela Renteria Canen, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A visitation will take place on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm at Hillside Funerals and Cremations, where a funeral service will commence at 12 noon in the chapel.
The funeral procession will depart the funeral home at 12:30 pm to Hero's Hall at the Laredo City Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest among those that like he, served this nation honorably and faithfully.
