Samuel Abel Mendez Sr.

Samuel Abel Mendez, Sr., 62, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, October 30, 2021, in Laredo, Texas.

“Sammy” dedicated his career to helping others as a registered nurse. Every doctor, nurse, and patient that knew Sammy loved him. He was greatly appreciated by all.

Sammy was an avid Cowboys fan and jokester. Everyone that knew him will remember him by a joke that he once told them. One of his favorite pass times was hanging out with friends and riding his motorcycle.

Sammy, you will be greatly missed.

Mr. Mendez is preceded in death by his parents, Gilberto Mendez, Sr., and Esperanza Donovan; siblings, Jorge David Mendez, and Hilda Sosa; and nephew, Daniel Bazan, Jr.

Sadly, he was later joined by his loving son, Samuel Abel Mendez, Jr.

He is also survived by his son, Gilbert Jerry Mendez; grandchildren, Abel Samuel Mendez, David Angel Mendez, and Orion Louis Mendez; step granddaughter, Itzabella Martinez; siblings, Gilberto (Dora) Mendez, Orphalinda (Daniel) Bazan, and Elizabeth (Roberto) Tijerina. He is also survived by his brother in law, Daniel Sosa, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A prayer service will be held on Sunday, November 7, 2021, at 6:00 p.m. in the Hillside Funeral Home chapel. A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 8, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at Hillside Funeral Home with a formal procession departing at 11:00 a.m.

Interment will follow to the City of Laredo Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Gilberto Mendez, Daniel Sosa, Daniel Bazan, Roberto Tijerina, Bobby Solis, David Gonzales, Ernest Davila, and Higinio Chapa.
