William “Bill” N. Young Jr., a lifelong Laredoan, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on July 26, 2025, at the age of 73.
Born in Laredo, Texas on October 22, 1951, Bill lived his entire life in the community he loved. He was a proud athlete at Laredo United High School, playing football, basketball, baseball, and running track, and an accomplished trombone player in the United High School band. His talent even earned him an opportunity pitching for the Kansas City Royals. This laid the foundation for a life defined by passion, hard work, and mentorship.
Over the years, Bill grew his knowledge and skillsets in many areas: high school coach at United, weekend Disk Jockey at KGNS radio, hydroponic agriculture pioneer and produce salesman, used car salesman at Paul Young Auto Group, and ultimately, U.S. Customs and Immigration Agent—a role he held with integrity and pride. After retiring from public service, Bill remained deeply involved in civic life, serving as the Chairman of the Webb County Republican Party from 2018 to 2021. He later returned to his agricultural roots, devoting himself to cultivating Moringa and tending the land he cherished.
Bill was a man of nature and spirit. He found peace in hunting and fishing and loved visiting the Coastal Bend—especially the jetties and shores of Port Aransas. His joy came not only from the outdoors but from the people around him. He was known for his warm humor, open heart, and the way he welcomed everyone with kindness. He loved coaching and teaching his children, and was deeply active in their lives, always encouraging their growth, independence, and happiness. His generosity and deep pride in his family were evident to all who knew him.
Bill is survived by his devoted wife, Leslie Lyn Young (née Lepovitz); his daughters, Charlotte “Charlie” Lyn Young, Victoria “Tori” Rose (Cole Gavlick) Young, and Sapphire Leigh Young; his cherished grandson, Julius Donnell Washington; and his loving sisters, Karen Ann (Terren) Roark and Dr. Catherine Elizabeth Young, and his cherished cousin, LT. Col. Lenora (Col. Erick) Nelson, USAF Retired. He is also survived by Leslie’s beloved mother, siblings and their spouses: Bonnie Lepovitz (née Ramirez), Lewis (Lilly) Lepovitz, Lloyd (Millie) Lepovitz, and Lizabeth (Dan) Solcher. He is also survived by his many beloved nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his mother, Catherine “Carrie” Young (née Leyendecker), his father, William Ned Young Sr., and his siblings Sandra Kay Young and baby brother, John Gerard Young.
A Rosary will be held in celebration of Bill’s life on Friday, August 8, 2025, at 10:30 A.M., followed by a funeral Mass at 11 A.M. at St. Patrick’s Church, located at 555 East Del Mar Blvd., Laredo, Texas 78041.
A procession will follow to the family plot at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest in the family plot.
Bill Young’s legacy lives on in the hearts of all who loved him—a legacy of family, community, and enduring kindness.
