Yamel M. Araiza

December 23, 1954 — March 11, 2019

Yamel “Linda” Araiza, 64, entered into rest peacefully at home surrounded by her loving daughter on Monday, March 11, 2019. Born in ciudad Juarez, Mexico, daughter of Jose Mayans Victoria and Graciela Patiño. She studied medicine in the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara, Mexico, where she met her future husband, Dr. Rodolfo Araiza, Jr., whom she married in 1979 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in El Paso, Texas. She was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, sister, and best friend to many. Mrs. Araiza studied Archeology and Music & Arts earning a Degree in Archeology and a Degree in Liberal Arts. She was an accomplished piano and cello musician and often played with the Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra. Linda enjoyed her weekly meetings with the philosophy and theology club. She was a devout  Catholic and participated with the Blessed Sacrament Church’s Choir.  Linda attended the Master Gardener program where she used her talent caring for her beautiful garden. Mrs. Araiza is preceded in death by her husband, Rodolfo Araiza; parents, Jose Mayans Victoria and Graciela Patiño; siblings, Luis Fernando Mayans, Carmelita Mayans. She is survived by her daughter, Yamel “Monti” Araiza; brothers, Dr. Jose (Suzy) Mayans, Juan (Dalia) Mayans, Jaime Mayans, Jorge (Sylvia) Mayans, and Carlos Mayans. Mrs. Araiza is also survived by other relatives and friends. A visitation will be held on Friday, March 15, 2019 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Hillside Funeral Home chapel. Departure will be at 10:30 a.m. to the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. A mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the family plot of the Calvary Catholic Cemetery. The family would like to thank Dr. Dennis & Lisa Cantu, Dr. Joseph Camero and the Laredo Specialty Hospital, Dr. Scott Johnson, Dr. John Floyd from the University of San Antonio Hospital and their support and care staff.  The family would also like to extend their deep appreciation to the wonderful CIMA Hospice’s staff.
